USF St. Petersburg has launched the Center for Ocean Mapping and Innovative Technologies (COMIT), introducing cutting-edge tools to explore the seafloor in new ways. With advanced surface vessels, COMIT can now map the shallow coastal waters of Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico—areas that were previously difficult to chart.
Our illustration highlights how COMIT’s technology maps the underwater landscape, improving ship navigation and helping scientists predict which areas are most at risk during storm surges and hurricanes.
